On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, Principal Michele Weiss and Shareholder David J. Warner will provide their expertise on U.S. Tax Court litigation in a webinar for the California Lawyers’ Association, Tax Section, Women in Tax committee meeting, entitled “Tax Court Litigation Strategies.”  During this 1-hour webinar on Tuesday, March 21, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., Michele and David will discuss strategies to reach the best resolution of cases before the U.S. Tax Court.  Registration and CLE is open only to members of the CLA Tax Section Women in Tax committee.

Michele Weiss is Principal and a tax controversy attorney at Holtz, Slavett & Drabkin.  She is a former IRS Counsel attorney and has over 20 years of experience in tax controversy and litigation matters.  She helps her clients resolve their tax disputes with federal, state, and local taxing authorities including the IRS, FTB, EDD, CDTFA, Board of Equalization, and County Assessor and has extensive Tax Court litigation experience.  Michele assists clients with sensitive voluntary disclosure matters and provides tax counsel for civil litigation, labor law, and family law matters.  Michele is a Fellow, American College of Tax Counsel; Fellow, American Bar Foundation; Chair, Beverly Hills Bar Association Tax Section; Member, Beverly Hills Bar Association, Board of Governors; Tax Policy Chair, California Lawyers Association, Women in Tax Committee; and Group Leader, Provisors, Los Angeles Lawyers and Legal Professionals Affinity Group.

David J. Warner is a Shareholder and the managing principal of the firm’s Orange County office.  David practices in all aspects of tax controversy including tax audits, collection defense, and tax litigation.  Before joining Holtz, Slavett & Drabkin, David was a Senior Trial Attorney with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel in Laguna Niguel for 9 years.  As an IRS attorney, he handled over 500 cases before the U.S. Tax Court, including the most complex domestic and international cases.  As is relevant to this presentation, David advised the local IRS Special Enforcement Program (SEP) and Large Business & International (LB&I) International Individual Compliance (IIC) revenue agents on complex audits, including cases with criminal issues and the civil closure of criminal cases.  David was an Adjunct Professor of Law at University of California Irvine School of Law, Chapman University Fowler School of Law, and Loyola Law School, where he taught courses on tax practice and procedure, partnership tax, bankruptcy tax, and corporate tax.
