Michele Weiss, Principal and Tax Attorney at Holtz, Slavett & Drabkin, along with Kandyce Jayasinghe (Covington & Burling) and Brian Gardner (Asbury Law Firm), will be speaking at the upcoming ABA Tax Section Virtual Fall Tax Meeting on the topic of “Collections and BBA Partnerships: How to Represent the Partner.” The program will take place on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time.
The panel will present an overview of the partnership audit rules from Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 (“BBA”), also known as the Centralized Partnership regime. The BBA regime went into effect for tax years beginning on January 1, 2018. An understanding of the BBA regime is critical to any attorney representing a partner or partnership in a BBA partnership audit. The panelists will take a deeper diver into aspects of the BBA that affect a partner during an IRS audit of a BBA partnership. In addition, the panel will provide tips for handling representation of a partner through the BBA audit process.
